COVID-19 death toll continues to rise. Five more Manatee County residents die
Five more people in Manatee County have died from COVID-19, the Florida Department of Health said Friday.
Across Florida, the deaths of 176 residents were reported. Since the pandemic hit, COVID-19 has killed at least 12,502 residents in the state.
The death toll in Manatee County is up to 275. The latest local victims are between the ages of 88 and 96, none of whom were residents at a long-term care facility, according to the FDOH case data.
Statewide, there were 3,650 new coronavirus infections reported Friday, raising the state total to 658,381.
There 31 new infections reported in Manatee County. Locally, infections since the onset of the pandemic now total 10,803.
Those latest cases were among 398 local test results released on Friday, with positivity rate of 7.8%.
Hospitalizations increased compared to Thursday with 22 patients hospitalized in one the county’s three general hospitals who are positive for the coronavirus, according to data collected by Manatee County Department of Public Safety. Of those patients, there were five who were being treated in an ICU.
The availability of staffed hospital beds county-wide, however, increased with 80 available beds among the three hospitals, including 12 ICU beds.
Paramedics have responded to an average of five 911 calls a day involving suspected COVID-19 patients.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,500 to 7,533. The official death toll rose from 225 to 231.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,526 to 1,530. The official death toll remained 23.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,190 to 1,202. The official death toll remained at nine.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 38,917 to 39,138. The official death toll rose from 579 to 584.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 20,655 to 20,795. The official death toll rose from 697 to 698.
