Four more Manatee County residents die from COVID-19, Florida health department says

Four Manatee County residents were among the 211 new deaths from COVID-19 confirmed Thursday by the Florida Department of Health, according to the latest data released by Florida Department of Health.

There have been 270 residents who have died from COVID-19 in Manatee County since the onset of the pandemic.

The county’s latest victim were an 89-year-old man, 73-year-old woman, 76-year-old man and 64-year-old man.

Across Florida, there have been 12,326 residents and 154 non-residents who have died from COVID-19.

Also Thursday, the health department reported 43 new coronavirus infections in Manatee County.. A total of 10,772 people have contracted the virus in Manatee Count, according to the state.

Statewide, there were 2,538 new coronavirus infections reported, raising the total to 654,731.

Manatee County’s three general hospitals had 19 patients hospitalized on Thursday who were positive for the coronavirus, according to data collected by the Manatee County Department of Public Safety. Ten patients were admitted with COVID-19 as a primary reason for admission, according to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration.

Among the three hospitals there were 49 staffed beds available, including eight ICU beds.

The county’s new confirmed cases were among the 269 local test results released on Thursday, with a 16% positivity rate.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,486 to 7,500. The official death toll rose from 221 to 225.

  • DeSoto County: Cases remained at 1,526. The official death toll remained 23.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,185 to 1,190. The official death toll remained at nine.

  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 38,790 to 38,917. The official death toll rose from 568 to 579.

  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 20,588 to 20,655. The official death toll rose from 693 to 697.
