23 more cases of COVID-19 in Manatee. Florida death toll passes 12,000

An additional 23 Manatee County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Florida Department of Health. They were among 2,564 new cases confirmed statewide on Sunday.

The statewide COVID-19 death toll on Sunday surpassed 12,000.

There have now been 646,431 cases of COVID-19 in Florida since the coronavirus outbreak began. Florida has had the second-highest number of confirmed cases nationwide, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

The state health department also reported 38 more COVID-19-related deaths of Florida residents on Sunday. The statewide death toll is now at 11,849 residents and 152 non-residents, for a total of 12,001 deaths. Florida ranks fifth in COVID-19 deaths across the U.S., according to the CDC.

The total number of reported COVID-19 cases in Manatee County is now at 10,656. Local deaths from the coronavirus remained at 266 on Sunday.

The positivity rate of tests administered in Manatee County continues to decline on a week-by-week basis. Over the past week, an average of 2.6% of tests were positive, compared to 3.5% two weeks ago and 4.8% three weeks ago, according to health department data.

Manatee County’s overall positivity rate, a cumulative measure of all tests since the outbreak began, decreased slightly from 10.84% to 10.83% on Sunday.

Florida’s overall positivity rate also decreased slightly from 13.5% to 13.49%.

Manatee County from Saturday to Sunday:

  • Cases increased from 10,633 to 10,656.
  • The death toll remained at 266.
  • Hospitalizations since the outbreak remained at 760.
  • The number of males infected are 4,899 compared to 5,511 females.
  • Manatee County’s overall positivity rate fell slightly from 10.84% to 10.83%. That compares to 10.9% last week, 11% two weeks ago, 11% three weeks ago and 10.6% a month ago.

  • The number of tests administered since the outbreak increased from 98,053 to 98,423.
  • 815 cases (8% of all cases) and 122 deaths were among residents and staff of long-term care facilities in Manatee.

  • 29 cases have been reported at Manatee County correctional facilities.

  • 1,264 children have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee.

Florida from Saturday to Sunday:

  • Cases increased from 643,867 to 646,431.
  • The death toll increased from 11,811 to 11,849 Florida residents. Non-resident deaths remained at 152.
  • Florida’s positivity rate decreased slightly from 13.5% to 13.49%.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,378 to 7,410. The official death toll remained at 216.
  • DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,522 to 1,523. The official death toll remained at 22.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,150 to 1,166. The official death toll remained at nine.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 38,262 to 38,426. The official death toll rose from 559 to 562.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 20,355 to 20,425. The official death toll rose from 671 to 672.
