This hand sanitizer’s label says it’s ‘edible alcohol.’ That’s why it’s been recalled
A hand sanitizer made in China and sold online by a Virginia company got recalled Thursday for the same reason it got put on the FDA’s Do Not Use list in August — it proudly says on the label “edible alcohol.”
So CorgioMed recalled all lots of Leafree Instant Hand Sanitizer-Aloe Vera in 100 ml, 300 ml and 500 ml bottles made by Yangzhou Olande Cosmetic. The UPC numbers are, respectively, 6970495860325; 69705860318; and 6970495860301.
There’s no evidence Leafree includes methanol, which the FDA says has been present in eight hand sanitizer drinking deaths. But “alcohol toxicity” remains possible with just regular hand sanitizer when it’s not used as intended.
As listed on the CorgiMed-written, FDA-posted recall notice, alcohol toxicity can be fatal in several ways and pregnant women can cause birth defects or developmental issues.
This hand sanitizer can be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund. Report any problems to your medical professional, then the FDA online at their MedWatch Adverse Event page or call 800-332-1088.
Those with questions can email contact@corgimed.com or call until Sept. 30th.
