Manatee woman among latest 100 COVID-19 deaths in Florida, health department says
A Manatee County woman was among the 100 new deaths from COVID-19 confirmed by the Florida Department of Health on Friday.
The official COVID-19 death toll in Manatee County is now 266, according to the state. The latest local victim, a 58-year-old woman, is not reported to have lived or worked at a long-term care facility.
In Florida, there have been 11,750 residents and 150 non-residents who have died from COVID-19, according to the health department.
There were also 3,198 new infections announced on Friday. The state has had a total of 640,211 people test positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19.
Forty-four of those new infections were in Manatee County. A total of 10,601 in Manatee have tested positive for the virus since March.
The latest cases were among 544 test results released by the department of health, with a daily positivity rate of 8%. The county’s overall positivity rate is 10.9% while the state has an overall positivity rate of 13.5%.
Friday was the last day for the state-run testing site located at the Home Depot located at 2350 Cortez Road, Bradenton. Free testing is still available at state-run sites at Lincoln Park in Palmetto and next to the Mall at the University Center.
As of Friday morning, the county’s three general hospitals had 27 patients positive for the coronavirus, with six of them requiring care in an intensive care unit, according to data reported by the hospitals to county public safety officials. Officials no longer get this data from Manatee Memorial Hospital daily as they had up until two weeks ago.
According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, there are 23 patients admitted to one of these hospitals with COVID-19 being the primary reason for admission. There were 112 available beds, including to 12 ICU beds, according to their database which does not account for staffing.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,281 to 7,338. The official death toll rose from 211 to 216.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,501 to 1,503. The official death toll remained at 22.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,108 to 1,125. The official death toll remained at nine.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 37,668 to 37,981. The official death toll rose from 554 to 558.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 20,080 to 20,259. The official death toll rose from 665 to 669.
