Manatee County will distribute $70 million in CARES Act funding. Here’s how to apply for help

Did you know that Manatee County will distribute up to $70 million in CARES Act funding to help our community cope with the financial impact of the pandemic and position us for recovery?

As a proud partner, the Manatee Chamber of Commerce is committed to helping build awareness so that our community can tap into these federal resources to benefit our local recovery. The county has launched several grant programs to access these CARES Act funds. Individuals, businesses, governmental agencies, non-profits, and community partners have differing needs, which are reflected in the eligibility for each grant opportunity. It is really important to note deadlines and other thresholds that will mark the end of each application cycle.

The Safety First Small Business Grant Program is now in its second round of applications. It is very important to note that the eligibility during round two has been expanded beyond the criteria for round one. The intent is to provide assistance to businesses that were severely impacted by the Governor’s Executive Orders. Small businesses may apply for up to $5,000 in reimbursements of expenses related to PPE and other health and safety procedures necessary to reopen and/or operate safely. They may also apply for up to $45,000 to cover losses brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Expanded Round Two eligibility includes businesses that were able to access PPP and EIDL loans or grants and also includes home-based businesses.

The Community Health and Wellbeing Grant Program is open to non-profits and other community organizations including medical, mental health, and substance abuse providers. This grant is also in its second round of applications. Organizations may apply for $5,000 to cover expenses related to PPE and reconfiguring workspaces for social distancing necessary to follow CDC guidelines for workplaces safety. There are also funds available, with specific criteria, for organizations seeking resources to create or expand programming to serve community needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Round Two is open to non-profits and community organizations that serve Manatee County residents.

The Housing Assistance Grant Program is now in its third round of applications and has a deadline of September 7 or 300 applications, whichever comes first, for this cycle. Eligible Manatee County residents who fall within income eligibility can receive up to $10,000 to help address delinquent rental or mortgage payments and associated utilities due to job loss, furlough, work hour reduction, etc., that are a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic. If awarded, funds will be paid directly to the landlord, lender and/or utility provider.

Manatee County has detailed information available at www.mymanatee.org/manateecares for each of these grant opportunities. The website has recorded information sessions, FAQs, and eligibility criteria as well as links to the official online applications.

The Manatee Chamber is a partner in helping to inform our community about these resources. In addition to the county’s website, businesses, non-profits, agencies, and residents interested in learning more can use www.RecoverManatee.com to link to the CARES Act grant information and access other important, reliable resources for a wide variety of help related to relief, restarting, and recovery.
