Three more Manatee County residents reported dead from COVID-19
Manatee County has lost three more residents to COVID-19, according to Florida health officials on Saturday. This brings the local death toll to 258 since the first death was reported amid the pandemic in early March.
There were 51 new cases reported in Manatee County, bringing the total number of infections since the outbreak to 10,391.
According to the latest data, one of the three new deaths was listed as being over the age of 85. People between the ages of 45 and 54 suffered the other two fatalities.
Three of the new positive cases were reported as being under the age of 14.
The age groups between 25 and 54 represent the largest group of infections, while the elderly have continued to take the brunt of fatalities.
Those over the age of 65 represent just 14 percent of the total number of infections, but 77 percent of the fatalities. Long-term care patients especially, have been hit hard with 119 of the deaths, including five staff members while representing just 8 percent of the total number of cases with 805.
Among the new cases being reported from Friday to Saturday are eight new cases in long-term care facilities and hospitalizations since the pandemic began increased from 728 to 733.
Manatee County’s overall positvity rate dropped slightly to 10.91 percent.
This is the first time in more than two weeks that the county has reported a daily positivity rating over the 9 percent targeted rate set by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.
The lowest daily positive percentage rate in the last 14 days was Aug. 26 at 2.25 percent and the highest was 6.84 percent on Aug. 16.
Florida added 3,197 new cases bringing the total number of infections to 619,003, which includes 6,797 non residents. The statewide death toll climbed by 148 to 11,105, including 144 non-residents
Florida’s positivity rate also dropped slightly to 13.51 percent.
Manatee County cases and deaths by age group:
- 0-4: Cases increased from 243 to 245 with no deaths.
- 5-14: Cases increased from 675 to 676 with no deaths.
- 15-24: Cases increased from 1,618 to 1,625 with one death. A 17-year-old died on July 1.
- 25-34: Cases increased from 1,764 to 1,775 with four deaths.
- 35-44: Cases increased from 1,647 to 1,652 with four deaths.
- 45-54: Cases increased from 1,488 to 1,496 with deaths increasing from nine to 11..
- 55-64: Cases increased from 1,253 to 1,262 with 37 deaths.
- 65-74: Cases increased from 799 to 805 with 50 deaths.
- 75-84: Cases increased from 482 to 483 with 83 deaths.
- 85 Plus: Cases increased from 251 to 252 with deaths increasing from 67 to 68.
- The state reports 11 cases with unidentified ages and no deaths.
- The 109 non-resident infections are not recorded in the age groups.

- The number of men infected is 4,756 compared to 5,358 females with 168 not identified.

- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,136 to 7,162 The official death toll rose from 201 to 202.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,468 to 1,472. The official death toll remained at 22.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,083 to 1,091. The official death toll remained at nine.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 36,574 to 36,784. The official death toll rose from 541 to 545.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 19,740 to 19,813. The official death toll rose from 645 to 650.
