Two more Manatee County residents die from COVID-19, health department says

Two more Manatee County residents have died from COVID-19, according to the Florida Department of Health.

The two new deaths bring the county’s death toll to 247.

The health department also reported 48 new coronavirus infections in Manatee, raising the total count to 9,891.

Florida added 3,922 new cases and 219 new deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 579,932 infections reported in Florida, including 9,758 deaths.

Among the new cases were nine infections in children under the age of 15, including three in kids 4 and younger.

According to the latest data, one of the residents who died was older than 85 and the other was between 55 and 64 years old.

Manatee County cases and fatalities by age group:

  • 0-4: Cases increased from 233 to 236 with no deaths..
  • 5-14: Cases increased from 636 cases to 642 with no deaths.
  • 15-24: Cases increased from 1,540 to 1,544 with one death. A 17-year-old male died on July 1.
  • 25-34: Cases increased from 1,697 to 1,700 with four deaths.
  • 35-44: Cases increased from 1,571 cases with four deaths.
  • 45-54: Cases increased from 1,431 to 1,436 with nine deaths.
  • 55-64: Cases increased from 1,194 to 1,203. Deaths increased by one to 35.
  • 65-74: Cases increased from 739 to 743 with 47 deaths.
  • 75-84: Cases increased from 461 to 466 with 80 deaths.
  • 85 plus: Cases increased from 229 to 232. Deaths increased by one to 67.

According to weekly data from the Florida Department of Health, a total of 117 of the county’s deaths have been tracked back to long-term care facilities..

Manatee County from Monday to Tuesday:

  • Cases increased from 9,843 to 9,891.
  • The death toll increased from 245 to 247.
  • Hospitalizations since the onset of the pandemic increased from 689 to 693.
  • The number of males infected is 4,528 compared to 5,092 females.
  • Manatee County’s positivity rate is just under 11%.
  • The number of tests administered increased from 89,655 to 90,121.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 6,728 to 6,764. The death toll increased from 173 to 178.
  • DeSoto County cases increased from 1,422 to 1,424. The death toll increased by one to 21.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 1,012 to 1,019. The death toll remained at eight.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 34,368 to 34,604. The death toll rose from 487 to 490.
  • Pinellas County cases increased from 18,774 to 18,738. The death toll rose from 558 to 570.
