Sixteen people under age 14 are among 73 new COVID-19 cases in Manatee County
Manatee County added 73 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Among those 73 cases were 16 new cases in the age group under 14.
The total number of infected since the coronavirus pandemic began in early March rose to 9,735. There were no new deaths reported, leaving the death toll at 245.
Health officials also reported 10 new cases in the age group between 15 and 24 years old.
The age group between 25 and 34 continues to be the largest age group of infections in the county and added 11 new cases. That age group represents 18 percent of the overall number of cases with 1,686. All of the age groups between 15 and 64 represent 77 percent of the overall cases.
However, the elderly have been hit the hardest with fatalities, though the age groups of over 75 only represent just 7% of the overall cases, but 60% of the fatalities.
The age group between 75 and 84 represent just 454 cases, but have suffered 80 fatalities. Those over the age of 85 have only recorded 221 of the overall cases, but have had 66 deaths.
Those numbers include 106 patient deaths in Manatee County’s long-term care facilities, which have reported 724 cases as of Saturday.

- 0-4: Cases rose from 229 to 231 with no deaths.
- 5-14: Cases rose from 611 to 625 with no deaths.
- 15-24: Cases rose from 1,520 to 1,686 with one death. A 17-year-old male passed on July 1.
- 25-34: Cases rose from 1,678 to 1,686 with four deaths.
- 35-44: Cases rose from 1,538 to 1,547 with four deaths.
- 45-54: Cases rose from 1,402 to 1,411 with nine deaths.
- 55-64: Cases rose from 1,173 to 1,179 with 34 deaths.
- 65-74: Cases rose from 731 to 735 with 47 deaths.
- 75-84: Cases rose from 450 to 454 with 80 deaths.
- 85 plus: Cases rose from 217 to 221 with 66 deaths.
Florida added another 6,397 new cases bringing the total number of infected since the outbreak to 569,637. The state also added another 204 deaths bringing the death toll to 9,345.
Manatee County cases from Friday to Saturday
- Number of cases increased from 9,662 to 9,735.
- The death toll remained at 245.
- Correctional facility cases remained at 23.
- The number of men infected is 4,473 compared to 5,005 females.
- The number of hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 680 to 684.

- Sarasota County cases increased from 6,605 to 6,652. The death toll was decreased by one to 173.
