Manatee County has 86 new cases of coronavirus. State adds 6,236 infections
There were 86 new coronavirus infections reported in Manatee County on Thursday, part of the 6,235 new cases reported by the Florida Department of Health.
There are now 557,137 people who have now tested positive in Florida. Infections in Manatee County now total 9,554.
The deaths of 148 residents were also confirmed in Florida. The official statewide death toll now stands at 8,913.
In Manatee County, there were no new deaths reported. The local death toll now stands at 242.
On Thursday, results were released for 666 coronavirus tests locally, with 12.9% of tests being positive. The overall positivity rate in Manatee County ticked up by one tenth of a percentage point, to 11%, for the first time this month. Across the state, the overall positivity rate is 13.5%.
There was an uptick Thursday with 84 patients admitted at Manatee County’s three general hospitals who are positive for the coronavirus, according to data reported by the hospitals to county emergency management officials.
According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, there were 76 patients who had COVID-19 as a primary reason for admission, also an increase since Tuesday.
The breakdown among hospitals of COVID-19 cases and availability as of Wednesday morning was:
- Blake Medical Center: 39 COVID-19 positive patients, nine of whom are in ICU and seven available non-ICU beds, seven available ICU beds, 12 available negative pressure rooms and 10 available ventilators.
- Lakewood Ranch Medical Center: 10 COVID-19 positive patients, four of whom are in ICU, 13 available non-ICU beds, four available ICU beds, 10 available negative pressure rooms and nine available ventilators.
- Manatee Memorial Hospital: 35 COVID-19 positive patients, four of whom were in ICU, five available non-ICU beds, no available ICU beds, 15 available negative pressure rooms and 13 available ventilators.
At Manatee Memorial Hospital, there were four patients in the emergency room who have been admitted but were still waiting for a bed. An additional 13 patients being treated the three hospitals were presumptive positive as of Thursday.
Between Wednesday and Thursday mornings, seven patients had been admitted from one of the three hospitals that was still positive for the coronavirus but no longer required hospital care. Another 17 patients were waiting to be discharged to a long-term care facility, some of whom were waiting their required first or second negative test.
Surrounding counties
Sarasota County cases increased from 6,394 to 6,479. The death toll increased 166 to 167.
DeSoto County cases increases from 1,382 to 1,393. The death toll remained at 18.
Hardee County cases increased from 992 to 998. The death toll remained at eight.
Hillsborough County cases increased from 33,198 to 33,428. The death toll rose from 426 to 427.
Pinellas County cases increased from 18,217 to 18,329. The death toll rose from 522 to 536.
