Manatee County confirms another COVID-19 death, along with 78 new cases

Another 78 Manatee County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Florida Department of Health. They were among more than 7,100 new cases reported statewide on Sunday.

One additional Manatee County resident has also died from COVID-19. The local death toll since the outbreak began is now at 186 residents.

Statewide, another 62 COVID-19-related deaths were recorded. That raises Florida’s death toll to 7,206, including 122 non-residents.

The total number of Florida cases since the pandemic began is now at 487,132. Florida has the second-highest total number of COVID-19 infections in the U.S., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and is one of nine states that has suffered more than 5,000 deaths from the coronavirus.

The rate at which Manatee County residents are testing positive for the virus remained at 10.8% on Sunday, outside of the state health department’s “target range” of below 10%. The local positivity rate has increased weekly since early June, when it was around 5%.

The statewide positivity rate also continues to increase. It reached 13.1% on Sunday. That compares to 12.5% a week ago.

Manatee County cases from Saturday to Sunday:

  • Cases increased from 8,655 to 8,733. (874 new cases were reported over the last week.)
  • The death toll increased from 185 to 186. (32 new deaths were reported over the last week.)
  • The number of residents hospitalized since the outbreak increased from 542 to 548 (75 hospitalizations were reported over the last week.)
  • The number of males infected is 4,008 compared to 4,472 females.
  • The number of tests administered increased from 80,073 to 80,721.
  • Manatee County’s overall positivity rate remained at 10.8%. That compares to 10.6% last week, 10% two weeks ago, 9.2% three weeks ago and 8% a month ago.
  • 635 cases (7% of all cases) and 103 deaths were among residents and staff of long-term care facilities in Manatee.

  • 10 cases have been reported at Manatee County correctional facilities.

  • 997 children have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee.

Florida cases from Saturday to Sunday:

  • Cases increased from 480,028 to 487,132.
  • The number of deaths increased to 7,206.
  • Florida’s positivity rate increased from 13.03% to 13.07%.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 5,672 to 5,724. The death toll remained at 121.

  • DeSoto County cases increased from 1,285 to 1,292. The death toll remained at 15.

  • Hardee County cases increased from 841 to 857. The death toll remained at seven.

  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 29,589 to 30,118. The death toll Increased from 341 to 347.

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 16,604 to 16,774. The death toll increased from 437 to 439.
