COVID-19 kills three more Manatee residents. Florida has another record day of death

Three more deaths are being attributed to COVID-19 in Manatee County and 150 new cases were reported on Thursday, according to the Florida Department of Health.

The death toll rose to 176 since the onset of the pandemic in March when the first COVID-19 death was reported. Manatee County’s total number of cases jumped to 8,337.

After Florida’s deadliest day on Wednesday, the state set a new record with another 253 deaths on Thursday. Also, there were 9,956 new cases statewide, raising. the total number of infections in Florida rose to 461,379.

The percentage of those testing positive in Manatee County did not change and stands at 10.7 percent.

Florida’s positivity rate continues to go in the wrong direction, climbing from 12.8 percent to 12.9 percent with more than 3.5 million tests administered.

Manatee County’s long-term care facilities, which represented the majority of cases at the onset of the pandemic, now represents 8 percent of the overall cases with 617 cases reported, an increase of three from Wednesday. However, 84 of the deaths have been long-term care patients or facility employees, according to the state’s weekly update.

Manatee County cases from Wednesday to Thursday:

  • Cases increased from 8,187 to 8,337.
  • The death toll increased from 173 to 176.
  • The number of hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 511 to 512.
  • The number of men infected is 3,842 compared to 4,258 females.
  • The number of tests administered increased from 73,815 to 77,998.
  • Manatee County’s positivity rate remains at 10.7 percent.

Florida cases from Wednesday to Thursday:

  • Cases increased from 451,423 to 461,379.
  • The death toll increased from 6,333 to 6,586.
  • Florida’s positivity rate increased from 12.78 percent to 12.87 percent.

Surrounding Counties:

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 5,274 to 5,443. The death toll increased from 115 to 119.
  • DeSoto County cases increased from 1,227 to 12,251. The death toll remains at 14.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 805 to 819. The death toll rose from six to seven.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 27,823 to 28,742. The death toll rose from 310 to 331.
  • Pinellas County cases increased from 15,541 to 16,114. The death toll rose from 395 to 418.
