Florida hits new record with 186 coronavirus deaths, pushing the toll past 6,000

Florida’s Department of Health on Tuesday morning confirmed 9,230 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s known total to 441,977. There were also 186 new Florida resident deaths announced, increasing the statewide resident death toll to 6,117.

The 186 deaths is the most the Florida Department of Health has announced in a single day since the pandemic began. The report doesn’t necessarily mean that every person died within a 24-hour period. The previous fatality record was Thursday, with 173 deaths.

No new non-resident deaths were announced, keeping the non-resident death toll at 118, according to Florida’s COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard.
