169 more people have confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Manatee County, state says

Another 169 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee County, the Florida Department of Health said Monday.

Across the state, another 10,347 people tested positive, as Florida continues to confirm thousands of new cases per day. Health officials say 360,394 people have tested positive throughout the state.

Monday’s update brought Manatee’s total number of cases to 6,738. The local death toll also rose from 143 to 144, according to state officials. Throughout the state, the number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 surpassed 5,000.

According to the Florida Department of Health, 5,072 residents and 111 non-residents died after contracting the virus.

In Manatee, 66,409 people have been tested for the novel coronavirus, putting the county’s percentage of positive tests at 10.1%, which is just above the state’s “target range” of 10%.

Statewide, however, the positivity rate rose from 11.6 percent on Sunday to 11.8 percent on Monday.

Manatee County cases from Sunday to Monday:

  • The number of cases increased from 6,569 to 6,738.
  • The death toll rose from 143 to 144.
  • The number of males infected is 3,192 compared to 3,471 females.
  • The cumulative number of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 406.
  • The number of people tested is now 66,409.
  • Manatee County’s overall positivity rate increased from 10% to 10.1%. That compares to 9.2% last week, 8% two weeks ago, 7% three weeks ago and 6.1% a month ago.
  • 544 cases (8% of all cases) and 91 deaths were among residents and staff of long-term care facilities in Manatee.

  • Nine cases have been reported at Manatee County correctional facilities.

  • As of this week, 633 children have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 4,245 to 4,338. The death toll rose from 106 to 107.
  • Desoto County cases increased from 1,067 to 1,086. The death toll remained at 13.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 706 to 710. The death toll remained at four.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 23,706 to 24,135. The death toll rose from 235 to 243.
  • Pinellas County cases increased from 13,482 to 13,705. The death toll rose from 314 to 323.
