Recycling suspension continues in Bradenton while workers await COVID-19 test results

City officials are extending the temporary pause on recycling pickup for another week due to the number of workers waiting for COVID-19 test results.

The temporary suspension first began on July 10 and has been extended to last through July 24, according to a press release from the City of Bradenton. There are still several employees in the Solid Waste Division who are quarantined, said Public Works Director Jim McLellan.

“Hopefully, this will be short term, so we are asking our residents to continue to collect their recyclables without a pick-up for another week,” McLellan said. “We will re-assess next week.”

As the department remains understaffed, McLellan said the city will focus on garbage and yard waste pickup operations.
