Manatee has 145 new COVID-19 cases. Florida adds 10,181, raising total to past 300,000

Manatee County has 145 new coronavirus cases as the state surpassed 300,000 cases total, the Florida Department of Health reported Wednesday.

In Manatee County, there have now been 5,564 positive cases of the coronavirus since March.

Statewide, there were 10,181 new cases reported, making a total of 301,810 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

The FDOH also announced 112 new deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The official state death toll now stands at 4,521. Another 105 people who were not Florida residents have also died in the state but not counted as part of the official toll.

In Manatee County, the death toll dropped from 140 to 139.

Deaths have been removed from local death toll before but FDOH has not commented on those cases specifically. Officials have said sometimes a death can be removed from the list when they learn that the person is not a resident.

Wednesday’s newly reported deaths occurred in Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Miami-Dade, Desoto, Duval, Escambia, Flagler, Gadsden, Hillsborough, Jackson, Lake, Lee, Marion, Martin, Orange, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Suwannee and Volusia counties.

For a second day in a row, Pinellas County saw a significant number of the state’s newly reported COVID-19 deaths with 42 deaths. On Tuesday, there were 26 deaths reported in the county.

Positivity rates continue to increase with the current surge of new cases. In Manatee County, the overall rate has risen to 9.5% while statewide it has risen to 11%.

Wednesday’s new cases were among 776 new tests results released in Manatee. The positivity rate was 18.7%.

The number of suspected COVID-19 911 calls continue to average at about 20 calls a day, according to Manatee County EMS.

Meanwhile, hospitals meanwhile were all at capacity on Wednesday in Manatee County. On Tuesday, 120 people were hospitalized in Manatee County because of COVID-19.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County cases increased from 3,219 to 3,447. The death toll remained at 100.

  • Desoto County cases increased from 886 to 997. The death toll rose from 11 to 12.

  • Hardee County cases increased from 607 to 633. The death toll remained at four.

  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 19,828 to 21,018. The death toll rose from 188 to 192.

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 11,442. The death toll rose from 236 to 278.
