Manatee has 154 new COVID-19 cases. Florida hits second-highest daily count with 12,624

Manatee County has another 154 cases of the coronavirus among the 12,624 new cases confirmed statewide by the Florida Department of Health on Monday.. It is the second-highest daily count of new cases statewide.

There are now 5,266 residents who have tested positve for the coronavirus in Manatee County. Statewide, there are now 282,435 who have tested positive.

The deaths of two more Manatee County residents because of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, were also announced Monday morning. The two deaths are among 35 new deaths reported across the state in Citrus, MiamiDade, Duval, Escambia, Hendry, Indian River, Lee, Manatee, Orange, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, St. Lucie, Volusia and Walton counties..

Manatee County’s death toll now stands at 140, while the state’s official death toll stands at 4,277. An additional 104 non-residents have also died in Florida from COVID-19.

On Sunday, Manatee County and Florida each set records in daily counts with 480 new cases locally and 15,386 statewide.

While Monday’s new case counts were lower than the previous day, the percentage of tests that have been positive continue to tick upward. In Manatee County, the overall positivity rate is now 9.3 percent while the state’s overrall rate is 10.7 percent

Monday’s data included the release of 1,069 new test results in Manatee County, with a 14.4 percent positivity rate.

Currently, there are 89 people hospitalized in one Of Manatee County’s three general hospitals, according to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, with COVID-19 being the primary reason for their admission and care. The three hospitals have a total of 110 patients admitted who are positive for the virus, according to data the hospitals now supply directly to county officials daily.

The availability of staffed non-ICU beds has improved since Friday, with 38 total available between the three hospitals. ICU beds, however remain in short supply with only three available between the hospitals.

The breakdown among hospitals of COVID-19 cases and available beds is as follows:

  • Manatee Memorial Hospital: Has 56 COVID-19 positive patients, three available non-ICU beds and two available ICU beds.
  • Lakewood Ranch Medical Center: Has 28 COVID-19 positive patients, 11 available non-ICU beds and no available ICU beds.
  • Blake Medical Center: Has 26 COVID-19 positive patients, no available non-ICU beds and one available ICU beds.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota cases increased from 3,106 to 3,219. The death toll remained at 100.

  • Desoto County cases increased from 831 to 886. The death toll remained at 11.

  • Hardee County cases increased from 602 to 607. The death toll remained at four.

  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 19,150 to 19,828. The death toll remained 188.

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 10,844 to 11,442. The death toll rose from 229 to 236.
