COVID-19 infects another 200 people in Manatee County as Florida cases top 250,000
Florida health officials on Saturday reported another 200 COVID-19 cases in Manatee County bringing the total number of infections to 4,632.
Statewide, Florida topped a quarter million infections with 11,385 new cases bringing the state’s total to 254,425 Another 95 fatalities have been reported bringing the state’s death toll to 4,197.
There were no new deaths reported in Manatee County, leaving the death toll at 138.
The statewide percentage of the number of people testing positive compared to the overall number of people tested is 10.1 percent. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s targeted positivity percentage is 9 percent.
Long-term care patients, who once represented the majority of cases in Manatee County early in the pandemic, climbed by one on Saturday to 513. The percentage of long-term care patients has steadily dropped along with the median age of those infected. The percentage now represents 11 percent of the total cases as the median age in Manatee County is 39 compared to the late 50s early in the outbreak.
Hospitalizations increased to a total of 335 since the outbreak. According to the Agency for Health Care Administration, Manatee County is down to just over 17 percent ICU capacity.
Daily positivity rates in the county have remained above the CDC’s targeted 9 percent for the past two weeks, ranging from 9.8 percent on July 2 to 20.1 percent on July 9. On Saturday, the overall positivity rate increased from 8.8 percent to 9 percent.
