Three more Manatee County residents die from COVID-19. Florida death toll surpasses 4,000
Three more Manatee County residents have died from COVID-19, the Florida Department of Health said Thursday. Statewide, the death toll from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic has surpassed 4,000.
The health department said Thursday that 186 residents had tested positive. Manatee County now has 4,266 people who have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic got underway.
A total of 138 residents have died.
With 738 test results released on Thursday, Manatee County had a daily positive rate of 25.2%.
The latest local cases were among the 8,935 new cases reported across the state. In total, there have now been 232,718 people who’ve tested positive in Florida.
Statewide, the deaths of 120 more Floridians from COVID-19 were also reported on Thursday. It was the highest daily number of deaths reported since ithe start of the pandemic.
The official state death toll now stands at 4,009. An additional 102 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.
One of the three recent deaths reported in Manatee County was a resident or staffer at a skilled nursing home or assisted living facility.
In Manatee County, an additional 28 people have tested positive locally for the coronavirus since the pandemic got underway but because they are not residents, they have not been counted in the official tally.
On Wednesday, there were 86 residents tested at the Bayshore Windmill Village mobile home park as part of department’s recent outreach efforts in the county’s mobile home parks.
The overall positive rate continues to climb in Manatee County and across the state, now at 8.7% and 9.9%, respectively.
The median age of all those who’ve tested positive locally and statewide remains at 39 years old.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 2,334 to 2,431. The death toll rose from 98 to 100.
- Desoto County: Cases increased from 775 to 799. The death toll rose from 10 to 11.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 536 to 548. The death toll remained at three.
- Hillsborough County cases increased from 16,099 to 16,666. The death toll rose from 163 to 182.
- Pinellas County cases increased from to 9,395 to 9,826. The death toll rose from 209 to 221.
