190 new coronavirus cases push Manatee past 4,000. Florida adds almost 10,000

Manatee County has another 190 residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus, as the state added nearly 10,000 new cases, according to the latest data released on Wednesday by the Florida Department of Health.

Wednesday’s new daily case count was the third-highest in Manatee County since the onset of the pandemic. The new 9,989 cases across the state Wednesday was the fourth-highest daily count to date.

A total of 4,080 people have now been infected with the coronavirus in Manatee County. Statewide, there are now 223,783 people who have been infected.

In Florida, there were 48 new deaths that were also announced on Wednesday morning in Broward, Miami-Dade, Escambia, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk, Santa Rosa, St. Lucie and Volusia counties.

In Manatee County, the official death toll remained at 135.

The death toll now stands at 3,889 in Florida. An additional 102 non-Florida residents have also died.

The overall positive rate has continued its upward tick, with 8.4% of those tested locally having tested positive for the coronavirus. Statewide, the positivity rate has risen to 9.6%.

The test results released Wednesday had a positive rate of 15.3% in Manatee County. The daily positive rate continues to be above the target rate and indicative of the virus spreading.

As cases continue to surge, some hospitals in Florida are beginning to reach capacity. On Wednesday afternoon, Manatee County hospitals only have four available ICU beds and 108 beds available overall at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Blake Medical Center and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

Surrounding counties:

Sarasota County: Cases increased from 2,249 to 2,334. The death toll remained at 98.

Desoto County: Cases increased from 760 to 775. The death toll remained at 10.

Hardee County: Cases increased from 517 to 536. The death toll remained at three.

Hillsborough County cases increased from 15,362 to 16,099. The death toll remained at 163.

Pinellas County cases increased from 9,032 to 9,395. The death toll rose from 206 to 209.
