COVID-19 put homeless shelter programs on hold in Bradenton. They resume this week
Homeless shelter programs that were put on hold due to COVID-19 will resume this week at Salvation Army of Manatee County’s facilities in Bradenton.
The Salvation Army suspended the operation of its emergency overnight shelter on March 30. The shelter, located at 1204 14th St. W., Bradenton, will reopen on Wednesday at limited capacity with social distancing measures in place. Shelter admittance will begin daily at 6 p.m.
Shelter space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and is available for women and children, as well as men.
Manatee County residents can use the shelter at no cost for seven nights, after which there is a fee of $10 per night, according to the organization’s website.
Applications for the Salvation Army’s shelter programs resumed on Monday.
In addition to a temporary place to stay, the programs offer case management and counseling for individuals and families who are trying to regain housing and financial independence. Specialized programs are available for working individuals, families, veterans and people seeking rehabilitation.
Those staying in the shelter facilities will be required to wash hands and undergo a temperature check upon entry, according to Salvation Army, and must wear a mask in dormitory and public spaces.
Free meals for those in need continue to be offered in a to-go format on weeknights at the Salvation Army’s 14th Street location.
