Another 46 new coronavirus cases in Manatee County. State has 6,093 new cases

Manatee County has another 46 new cases of people who have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the latest data released by the Florida Department of Health on Tuesday.

The latest local cases are among the 6,093 new cases across the state.

Across the state, the deaths of 58 more residents was also announced on Tuesday. In total 3,505 Floridians have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. An additional 99 deaths of non-residents have been reported in the state.

The death toll in Manatee County stands at 130.

In Manatee County, there have 2,856 people total who have been infected by the coronavirus. Statewide, there have been 152,434 people infected.

Overall in Manatee County, the percentage of those testing positive rose by one percentage point to 7.2% from Monday to Tuesday. The overall positive rate statewide is currently 7.8%.

The latest positive cases announced locally are among 283 test results released, with 16.3% percent positive for the virus.

Coronavirus cases in surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 1,447 to 1,482, with an overall 4.2% percent positive. The death toll remains at 97.
  • DeSoto County: Cases went from 600 to 604, with an overall 13.2% percent positive. The death toll remains at 10.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 426 to 430, with an overall 17.4% percent positive. The death toll remains at three.

  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 10,323 to 10,752, with an overall 8.4% percent positive. The death toll increased from 135 to 138.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 6,260 to 6,487, with an overall 7.0% percent positive. The death toll rose from 154 to 166.

Younger residents driving infections

As the coronavirus continues to spread, younger people are becoming infected.

In Manatee County and statewide the median age for those who have tested positive is 40 years old.

The age group with the most infections in Manatee County is those between the ages 25 to 34, with 507 currently confirmed positive. Almost half of all positive infections in Manatee County are people ages 25 to 54.

By comparison, those 65 years old and over, believed to be the most vulnerable to this coronavirus, account for fewer than 20 percent of the county’s current confirmed cases.

  • 0 to 4 years old: 61 cases
  • 5 to 14 years old: 153 cases
  • 15 to 24 years old: 403 cases
  • 25 to 34 years old: 507 cases
  • 35 to 44 years old: 466 cases
  • 45 to 54 years old: 399 cases
  • 55 to 64 years old: 344 cases
  • 65 to 74 years old: 236 cases
  • 75 to 84 years old: 176 cases
  • 85 years old plus: 111 cases
