Another record day for COVID-19 in Manatee County as 137 new cases are reported
Florida and Manatee County set new records for the second straight day as health officials report 137 new cases of COVID-19 in the county, from Friday to Saturday, while Florida recorded 4,049 new cases.
Manatee County’s number of cases is now 1,786 while two more residents have died, bringing the county’s death toll to 126.
The county’s percentage of positive cases compared to the number of tested rose for the second straight day from 5.2 percent on Thursday to 5.4 percent on Friday and 5.7 percent on Saturday. The number of residents tested continues at a fast pace with more than a 1,000 new tests completed.
As of Saturday, 31,226 residents have been tested with 29,428 testing negative.
Florida blew past the 90,000 mark on Saturday, and the state now has 93,797 cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Another 40 people have died statewide bringing the death toll to 3,144.
No new cases were reported in the county’s long-term care facilities, which remains at 461, or 26 percent of the overall cases. However, as of the state’s last updated report, long-term care facility deaths represent 85 of the 126 total deaths in the county.
Manatee County and Pinellas County are tied for the fifth most long-term care facility deaths in Florida.
Sarasota County added 58 new cases, with a total of 926 positive cases while reporting two more deaths totaling 94.
Manatee County cases from Friday to Saturday:
- The number of cases increased from 1,649 to 1,786.
- The number of deaths increased from 124.
- Hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 244 to 246.
- The number of males infected is 819, compared to 944 females.
- The number of residents tested increased to 31,226.
- The percentage of positive cases to the number of tests increased from 5.4 percent to 5.7 percent.
Sarasota County cases from Friday to Saturday:
- The number of cases increased from 868 to 926.
- The death toll increased from 92 to 94.
- The number of hospitalizations since the outbreak increased by one to 180..
- The number of residents tested increased to 28,914.
- The number of males infected is 401 compared to 500 females.
- The number of positive cases compared to those tested increased from 2.9 percent to 3.1 percent.
Florida cases from Friday to Saturday:
- The number of cases increased from 89,748 to 93,797.
- The death toll increased from 3,104 to 3,144..
- The percentage of those testing positive compared to the number tested did not immediately update.
Surrounding counties:
- Pinellas County cases increased from 3,153 to 3,438. The death toll increased from 113 to 114..
- Hillsborough County cases increased from 4,982 to 5,319. The death toll increased from 109 to 114.
- Polk County cases increased from 1,856 to 1,970. The death toll increased from 77 to 78.
- Hardee County cases increased from 244 to 272. The death toll remains at one.
- Desoto County cases increased from 431 to 439. The death toll remains at 10.
