5 more die in Manatee County from COVID-19. Florida cases hit daily record high of 3,207
Five more Manatee County residents have died from COVID-19, the Florida Department of Health said Thursday. Additionally, 25 more residents have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, part of a new daily record high for the state.
In all, there have been 1,548 cases, including 122 deaths in Manatee County.
Despite a recent spike in the number of new cases, the health department reports the percentage of those tested in Manatee who were found to be infected with the coronavirus decreased slightly to 5.2 percent.
Testing in Manatee County is nearing the 30,000 mark, with 29,914 residents tested, including 28,355 testing negative.
Statewide, there were 3,207 new infections reported, the highest daily count during the pandemic. Florida’s total number of cases is now 85,926, or 5.7 percent those who have been tested.
Sarasota County reported 30 new cases. The death toll there remains at 92.
In Sarasota, 2.9 percent of those tested have been found to be carrying the coronavirus.
There have been 454 cases in long-term care facilities in Manatee County, representing about 30 percent of the cases in the county, according to the health department. Seventy-four residents and one staff member had died, as of Wednesday.
There have been 81 cases reported in Manatee County of residents under the age of 18.
According to the state’s weekly report on long-term care facility deaths, which was not updated Thursday, Manatee County’s long-term care’s 75 deaths include 74 residents and one staff member having died from the disease. Those facilities include:

- The number of cases increased from 1,523 to 1,548.
- The number of deaths increased from 117 to 122.

- The number of males infected is 705, compared to 829 females.

- The percentage of positive cases to the number of tests is 5.2 percent.
Sarasota County cases from Wednesday to Thursday:
- The number of cases increased from 803 to 833.
- The death toll increased remains at 92.
- The number of hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 177 to 179.
- The number of residents tested increased from 28,687 to 28,904.
- The number of males infected is 354 compared to 455 females.
- The number of positive cases compared to those tested is 2.9 percent.
Florida cases from Wednesday to Thursday:
- The number of cases increased from 82,719 to 85,926.
- The death toll increased from 3,018 to 3,061.
- The percentage of those testing positive compared to the number tested is 5.7 percent.
Surrounding counties:
- Pinellas County cases increased from 2,684 to 2,887. The death toll increased from 110 to 112.
- Hillsborough County cases increased from 4,210 to 4,610. The death toll increased from 104 to 105.
- Polk County cases increased from 1,634 to 1,702. The death toll increased from 74 to 76.
- Hardee County cases increased from 221 to 228. The death toll remains at one.
