12 more cases of COVID-19 in Manatee County and 1,180 statewide

An additional 12 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Manatee County, according to the the Florida Department of Health.

They were among 1,180 new cases reported statewide on Sunday. It was the fifth day this week that more than 1,000 new cases were reported as the state is testing more people.

Manatee County has now had 1,189 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since testing for the coronavirus began.

To date, about 37 percent of all COVID-19 cases in Manatee County are tied to long-term care facilities, according to the state health department. And of 105 COVID-19-related deaths reported in the county, 71 were among residents or staff of the facilities.

The rate at which Manatee County residents are testing positive for the coronavirus has continued to drop each week as thousands of additional tests are administered. The test positivity rate is now 5.1 percent in Manatee County, which is within the health department’s “target range.” The statewide test positivity rate is 5.3 percent.

Across Florida, 12 new deaths were reported since Saturday. The death toll from COVID-19 in the state is now 2,700, and the number of cases increased to 63,938 as of Sunday morning.

Manatee County numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The number of cumulative positive cases increased from 1,177 to 1,189. (144 new cases were reported over the past week.)
  • The number of reported deaths remained at 105. (Eight new deaths were reported over the past week.)
  • The number of cumulative hospitalizations increased to 222 residents.
  • The number of men infected is 525 compared to 653 women.
  • The number of people tested in Manatee increased from 22,419 to 23,154. (5,044 new tests were logged over the past week.)

  • The county’s test positive rate has decreased from 6.7% two weeks ago to 5.8% last week to 5.1% this week.
  • 437 cases (37% of all cases) were among residents and staff of long-term care facilities in Manatee.
  • There have been three cases confirmed among staff and/or residents at correctional facilities.

Sarasota County numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The number of cumulative positive cases increased from 669 to 680.
  • The number of reported deaths remained at 85.
  • The number of cumulative hospitalizations remained at 167 residents.
  • The number of men infected is 237, compared to 331 women.
  • The number of people tested is now 22,915.
  • Sarasota County’s test positive rate is 3% — down from 4.8% two weeks ago.

  • The state’s number of positive cases increased from 62,758 to 63,938.
  • The state’s death toll increased from 2,688 to 2,700.
  • The state’s percentage of positive cases from the number tested is 5.3%, compared to 5.8% two weeks ago.

Surrounding counties

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 1,532 to 1,584. Reported deaths remained at 95.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 2,643 to 2,748. Reported deaths remained at 90.
  • Polk County cases increased from 1,145 to 1,178. The death toll increased by one to 67.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 140 to 145. There have been no reported deaths in Hardee County.
  • Desoto County cases increased from 258 to 268. Reported deaths remained at seven.
