COVID-19 claims another life in Manatee County as death toll nears 100

Another Manatee County resident has died due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, according to the Florida Department of Health on Saturday.

Manatee County’s death toll now stands at 97 residents who have died from the disease, according to health officials.

There were 15 new cases of COVID-19 reported overnight bringing the county’s total to 1,037.

Manatee County’s percentage of positive tests per residents tested increased slightly to 5.9 percent, but still below the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s targeted guideline of 9 percent.

There have been 17,694 county residents tested to date with 16,648 testing negative.

Sarasota County added seven new cases overnight with no new fatalities being reported.

Florida’s total number of cases topped the 55,000 mark with 55,424 positive cases, which includes 54,024 residents.

Health officials are reporting 34 new deaths in Florida. The state’s death toll increased to 2,447.

Manatee County cases from Friday to Saturday:

  • The number of positive cases increased from 1,022 to 1,037.
  • The death toll increased from 96 to 97.
  • The number of residents hospitalized increased from 211 to 212.
  • The number of males who have tested positive is 439, compared to 590 females.
  • The number of residents tested increased from 17,540 to 17,694.
  • Manatee County’s percentage of positive cases compared to the number of residents tested is 5.9 percent.

Sarasota County cases from Friday to Saturday:

  • The number of positive cases increased from 622 to 629.
  • The death toll remains at 77.
  • The number of residents hospitalized remains at 165.
  • The number of males who have tested positive is 256, compared to 356 females.
  • The number of residents tested increased from 15,315 to 15,779.
  • Sarasota County’s percentage of positive cases compared to the number of residents tested is 4 percent.

Florida cases from Friday to Saturday:

  • The number of positive cases increased from 54,497 to 55,424.
  • The death toll increased from 2,413 to 2,447.
  • The state’s percentage of positive cases compared to the number of residents tested is 5.6 percent.

Surrounding counties:

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 1,238 to 1,262. The death toll remains at 82.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 2,069 to 2,129. The death toll increased by two to 81..
  • Polk County cases increased from 977 to 1,005. The death toll remains at 55.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 91 to 93. There have been no reported deaths in Hardee County.
  • Desoto County cases increased from 171 to 173. The DOH reduced the number of COVID-19 deaths from eight to seven.
