Another person has died from COVID-19 in Manatee County. State death toll surpasses 2,400
Another person has died from COVID-19 in Manatee County, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Also, Manatee County has 15 new cases of COVID-19, as the state added 1,212 new cases — the highest daily count in more than a month — to its total count, according to the health department.
Manatee County has now had 96 people die from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. The state death toll, which increased by 49 on Friday, now stands at 2,413.
About two-thirds of the COVID-19 deaths in Manatee County have been residents or staff at one of the county’s skilled nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
A total of 1,022 people in Manatee County have now tested positive for the coronavirus. Statewide, there are now 54,497 total cases.
Friday’s statewide increase in cases marks the largest daily increase in more than a month. Before Friday, April 17 saw the largest increase in cases at 1,413 cases. Since then, the state has only seen case increases larger than 1,000 in a single day three times.
Sarasota County’s death toll remained at 77 on Friday. With the latest new cases announced, Sarasota County now has a total of 622 cases.
With the latest deaths reported, Pinellas County’s death toll now stands at 82 and Hillsborough County’s stands at 79. Also, Pinellas County now has 1,238 total cases while Hillsborough County has a total of 2,069.
