Frontier announces new nonstop routes between Sarasota Bradenton and four northern cities
Low-fare carrier Frontier Airlines on Thursday announced four new routes for Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, starting this summer.
The new SRQ routes include:
▪ Philadelphia International Airport on Saturdays, starting June 6 with an introductory fare of $39.
▪ Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Saturdays, starting June 6 with an introductory fare of $49.
▪ Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Saturdays, starting July 4 with an introductory fare of $39.
▪ Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Saturdays, starting July 4 with an introductory fare of $49.
The introductory fare is applicable in both directions and the same terms and conditions apply. The SRQ routes were among 18 new Frontier nonstop routes to Florida airports announced on Thursday.
“We’re pleased to announce 18 new routes and demonstrate our commitment to providing low fares to great destinations for our customers as the country reopens,” Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial for Frontier Airlines, said in a press release.
“Frontier has been at the forefront in implementing numerous measures to support passenger well-being in-flight and we are seeing a strong uptick in summer travel demand. We anticipate these new routes to a variety of popular vacation destinations will be in high demand as family and friends seek affordable domestic summer travel options,” Shurz said.

Frontier has announced temperature screenings for all passengers and team members beginning on June 1. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will be denied boarding as a step to better protect other passengers while flying.
In April, Frontier announced sweeping health and safety enhancements affecting every step of a customer’s travel journey with the airline. Face coverings that must be worn by all passengers and team members throughout every flight. Prior to completing check-in via the company’s website or mobile app, passengers are required to confirm that neither they nor anyone in their household has exhibited COVID-19 related symptoms in the last 14 days. Passengers will have to certify they have washed or sanitized their hands before boarding the flight.
Thursday’s Frontier announcement was another signal that airline passenger traffic which ground to a standstill is beginning to recover, said Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
“I think you will see weekly changes. The airlines are going to be very nimble in making changes,” Piccolo said. “The airlines are starting to bring these flights back. I am optimistic that things will slowly improve. Rather than being 95 percent down, we will be 85 percent down.”
On SRQ’s worst days during the pandemic, there might have been between 150 and 200 passengers departing the airport. Now on the best days there are between 1,000 and 1,200, Piccolo said.
“I am hearing the same thing from my colleagues at other airports that things are getting better. The announcements by Disney and Universal that they are reopening were helpful in sending the message that things are opening up,” he said.
