The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Bradenton to reopen next week

After a long closure due to COVID-19, The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Bradenton will reopen to the public on June 3.

New hours and safety measures will be in place, and ticket prices will be temporarily reduced as some attractions remain closed.

Here’s what to know if you go.

Museum safety measures

  • Entry to the museum will be timed on an hourly schedule to limit the number of guests inside at one time.
  • All visitors over age 2 will be required to wear a mask. Museum staff will also wear masks.
  • Social distancing measures will be enforced.
  • Check-in at the museum and shopping at the gift shop will follow new, touch-free procedures.
  • Exhibits will have a one-way traffic flow with signs to direct guests.
  • Advanced ticket purchase is encouraged. Get tickets online at bishopscience.org/tickets or by calling 941-746-4131.

New hours

The Planetarium and the Mosaic Backyard Universe will remain closed during the museum’s first phase of reopening, staff said. Programs that typically take place at the museum, including children’s story time and science events, will continue to be held online.

Attractions that will be open to museum visitors include the natural history museum, the manatee habitat and a special exhibition photos by nature photographer Clyde Butcher titled “Myakka River: A Florida Treasure.”

The museum has also begun accepting applications for its annual summer camp program starting in late June, which will be offered in a modified format to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
