Connie Silva was an avid reader, spiritual and cared for others. COVID-19 claimed her life
Concepcion “Connie” Silva cared for many children, teaching in Head Start and church nurseries as well as caring for her grandchildren during most of her life.
She had four grandchildren: Kristina, Victoria, David and Corey.
On April 17, 2020, Connie Silva passed away at the age of 90 from complications of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus, at Manatee Memorial Hospital. According to an official report from the Florida’s District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office, Silva was exposed to COVID-19 at the Riviera Palms Rehabilitation Center in Palmetto.
An avid reader, Silva was very spiritual and read the Bible daily. She also was a wonderful seamstress.
Born on June 2, 1929 in Tilden, Texas, she came from a large family. She was one of 17 children, and rode horses with her family.
In September 1956, she married Moises Silva and moved to Illinois. She had four sons: Moses, Victor, David and Ernesto, and a nephew, Carlos.
Her children, grandchildren, friends and cousin Theresa cared for her as she began to age. Connie Silva, who spent most of her adult life in her Manatee County home, cared for others most of her life, and her church family and friends were always dear to her.
In addition to her children, grandchildren and cousin, she is also survived by her siblings Lupe, Mary, Juan, Gonzalo, Delphine, Adella, Christina and Salvador.
In lieu of funeral arrangements not being possible at that time, the family celebrated her spirit and kindness given throughout their lives. And to honor Silva, they ask to donate a book to a local skilled nursing facility with the inscription, “For Connie,” on the inside cover.
