Another 17 cases of COVID-19 in Manatee County. 740 more statewide

An additional 17 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Manatee County, according to the Florida Department of Health.

They were among 740 new cases reported statewide on Sunday.

Manatee County has now had 975 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since testing for the coronavirus began.

A large portion of the COVID-19 cases and deaths in Manatee County are tied to long-term care facilities.

As of Saturday, 13 care facilities in Manatee had reported a combined 209 positive cases among residents and staff, according to data released by the state health department.

The state has reported 91 COVID-19-related deaths in Manatee County, 58 of whom were among residents or staff of long-term care facilities. Out of all counties in the state, Manatee County has had the fifth most deaths tied to long-term care facilities behind Dade, Palm Beach, Broward and Lee.

The rate at which Manatee County residents are testing positive for the coronavirus has continued to drop over the past week, according to the state health department. The test positivity rate is now 6.7 percent in Manatee County, which is within the health department’s “target range.” The statewide test positivity rate is 5.8 percent.

Across the state of Florida, five new deaths were reported since Saturday. The death toll from COVID-19 in the state is now 2,237, and the number of cases increased to 50,867 as of Sunday morning.

Manatee County numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The number of cumulative positive cases increased from 958 to 975. (There were 126 new cases over the past week.)
  • The number of reported deaths remained at 91. (10 new deaths were reported over the past week.)
  • The number of cumulative hospitalizations increased to 205.
  • The number of men infected is 408 compared to 559 women.
  • The number of people tested in Manatee increased from 14,395 to 14,620. (4,656 new tests were logged over the past week.)
  • The county’s test positive rate has decreased from 10% two weeks ago to 8.5% last week to 6.7% this week.

Sarasota County numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The number of cumulative positive cases increased from 576 to 586.
  • The number of reported deaths remained at 73.
  • The number of cumulative hospitalizations remained at 161 residents.
  • The number of men infected is 237, compared to 331 women.
  • The number of people tested is now 12,123.
  • Sarasota County’s test positive rate is 4.8% — down from 6% last week.

  • The state’s number of positive cases increased from 50,127 to 50,867.
  • The state’s death toll increased from 2,232 to 2,237.
  • The state’s percentage of positive cases from the number tested is 5.8%, down from 7% one week ago.

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 1,153 to 1,173. Reported deaths remained at 75.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 1,823 to 1,883. Reported deaths remained at 72.
  • Polk County cases increased from 853 to 869. Reported deaths remained at 49.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 63 to 77. There have been no reported deaths in Hardee County.
  • Desoto County cases increased from 112 to 115. Reported deaths remained at eight.
