COVID-19 claims another life in Manatee County as 12 new confirmed cases are reported

Another COVID-19 fatality in Manatee County was reported by the Florida Department of Health, bringing the county’s death toll to 91 as of Saturday.

Females continue to be predominately affected, making up 58% of all of the recorded cases. With 12 new confirmed cases reported, the total number is now at 958.

Despite steady increases in cases and more fatalities, the DOH is reporting that Manatee County’s positive tests per the number of those tested continues to see a decrease. On Saturday, the percentage of those testing positive is 6.7%, remaining below the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention’s 9% guideline for several days.

Florida cases topped 50,000 on Saturday with a total of 50,127 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The state is reporting 42 new deaths, bringing the state death toll to 2,232.

Sarasota County is reporting three new deaths since Friday’s update with 73 people now dead from the disease. And with 11 new cases, Sarasota’s total number of positives is now at 576.

Manatee County cases from Friday to Saturday:

  • Manatee County cases increased from 946 to 958.
  • The death toll increased from 90 to 91.
  • Hospitalizations increased from 201 residents to 203.
  • The number of males infected is 402 compared to 549 females.
  • There have been 14,395 tests administered.
  • Manatee County’s positive percentage of cases per residents tested is 6.7%.

Sarasota County cases from Friday to Saturday:

  • Sarasota cases increased from 565 to 576.
  • The death toll increased from 70 to 73.
  • Hospitalizations increased from 158 residents to 161.
  • The number of males infected is 231 compared to 329 females.
  • There have been 11,780 tests administered.
  • Sarasota County’s positive percentage of cases per residents tested is 4.9%.

Florida cases from Friday to Saturday:

  • Cases increased from 49,451 to 50,127.
  • The death toll increased from 2,190 to 2,232
  • Florida’s positive percentage of cases per residents tested is 5.9.

Surrounding counties:

  • Pinellas County: The number of cases increased from 1,116 to 1,153. The death toll increased from 73 to 75.
  • Hillsborough County: The number of cases increased from 1,790 to 1,823. The death toll increased from 70 to 72.
  • Polk County: The number of cases increased from 840 to 853. The death toll remains at 49.
  • Hardee County: The number of cases increased from 60 to 63. There are no reported deaths in Hardee County.
  • Desoto County: The number of cases increased from 97 to 112. The death toll remains at eight.
