15 more cases of COVID-19 in Manatee County. Over 700 more statewide

An additional 15 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Manatee County, according to the Florida Department of Health.

They were among 777 new cases reported statewide on Sunday.

Manatee County has now had 849 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since testing for the coronavirus began.

As of Saturday, there were 205 reported cases among residents and staff at 12 long-term care facilities in the county, according to a report from the state health department.

There have been 81 confirmed COVID-19-related deaths in Manatee County, 52 of which were among residents or staff of long-term care facilities. Outside of South Florida, Manatee County has had the most deaths tied to long-term care facilities in the state.

The rate at which Manatee County residents are testing positive for the coronavirus has significantly dropped since more local testing has become available over the last several weeks. The test positivity rate is now 8.5 percent in Manatee County, which is within the health department’s “target range.” The statewide test positivity rate is 7 percent.

Across the state of Florida, nine new deaths were reported since Saturday. The death toll from COVID-19 in the state is now 1,974, and the number of cases increased to 45,588 as of Sunday morning.

Manatee County numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The number of cumulative positive cases increased from 834 to 849. (There were 73 new cases over the past week.)
  • The number of reported deaths remained at 81.
  • The number of cumulative hospitalizations increased to 195.
  • The number of men infected is 348 compared to 497 women.
  • The number of people tested in Manatee increased from 9,657 to 9,964.
  • The county’s test positive rate has decreased from 10% one week ago to 8.5% this week. The rate is down from almost 15% two weeks ago.

Sarasota County numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The number of cumulative positive cases increased from 498 to 508.
  • The number of reported deaths remained at 58.
  • The number of cumulative hospitalizations increased to 152.
  • The number of men infected is 201, compared to 291 women.
  • The number of people tested is now 8,494.
  • Sarasota County’s test positive rate is 6% — down from 6.5% last week.

Florida COVID-19 numbers from Saturday to Sunday

  • The state’s number of positive cases increased from 44,811 to 45,588.
  • The state’s death toll increased from 1,964 to 1,973.
  • The state’s percentage of positive cases from the number tested is 7%, down from 7.5% one week ago.

  • Pinellas County cases increased from 1,008 to 1,022. Reported deaths remained at 67.
  • Hillsborough County cases increased from 1,585 to 1,614. There were 53 reported deaths, an increase of two.
  • Polk County cases increased from 722 to 736. There were 42 reported deaths, an increase of one.
  • Hardee County cases increased from 39 to 40. There have been no reported deaths in Hardee County.
  • Desoto County cases increased from 61 to 66. There were seven reported deaths, an increase of one.
