Two more COVID-19 deaths reported in Manatee County, raising total to 81

COVID-19 has killed two more people in Manatee County, the Florida Department of Health said Saturday.

In addition to the deaths, which raised the death toll to 81, the health said there were eight new cases of COVID-19 in Manatee. In all, 834 people in Manatee have tested positive for the novel coroanvirus, which causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease.

The DOH is reporting Manatee County’s positive rate is at 8.6%, below the state target of 9%. The drop in percentage rate comes with a significant increase in testing, with more than 1,500 new tests being reported since Friday. The statewide positive rate is 7.1%

Sarasota County recorded two new cases on Saturday with no new deaths. So far, 58 people in Sarasota have died from the disease, out of 498 cases.

The total number of cases in Florida rose from 44,138 on Friday to 44,811 and the state’s positive percentage per test is 7.1%.

Latest numbers in Manatee County from Friday to Saturday:

  • The number of positive cases increased from 826 to 834.
  • The number of reported deaths increased from 79 to 81.
  • Hospitalizations remain at 193.
  • The number of males infected is 341 compared to 489 females.
  • Testing increased from 7,941 to 9,657.

Latest numbers in Sarasota County from Friday to Saturday:

  • The number of positive cases increased from 496 to 498.
  • The number of fatalities remains at 58.
  • Hospitalizations increased from 144 to 145.
  • The number of males infected is 197 compared to 285 females.

Latest numbers in Florida from Friday to Saturday:

  • The number of positive cases in Florida increased from 44,138 to 44,811.
  • The death toll climbed from 1,917, to 1,964

Surrounding counties:

  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 997 to 1,008 with 67 dead, an increase of one death.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 1,568 to 1,585 with 51 dead, an increase of three deaths.
  • Polk County: Cases increased from 716 to 722 with 41 dead, an increase of one death.
  • Hardee County: Cases remain at 39, with no deaths reported.
  • Desoto County: Cases remain at 61 with six dead.
