Another death reported at Manatee County long-term care facilities. State death toll passes 1,900

Another COVID-19-related death connected to a skilled nursing home or assisted living facility in Manatee County was announced late Friday by the Florida Department of Health.

The local death toll now stands at 79 in Manatee County. Of those who have died locally, 51 were residents or staffers at a long-term care facility.

Statewide, there were 42 new deaths confirmed, with the other deaths occurring in Alachua, Broward, Charlotte, Clay, Collier, Miami-Dade, Escambia, Hillsborough, Lee, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota and St. Lucie counties. The state’s death toll now stands at 1,917.

There were also 13 new positive cases announced in Manatee County on Friday, bringing the total of local cases to 826. Friday’s data accounted for 250 additional tests results.

Manatee County’s positive rate has dropped one tenth of a percentage point, with 8.7% of those tested being positive for the coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19.

Statewide, confirmed cases have surpassed 44,000, with more than 900 new cases announced on Friday.

Testing resumed at the Bradenton Area Convention Center in Palmetto, as part of a one-day event by the Manatee County Department of Health. At the state-run regional testing site near the Mall at the University Town Center, there were 750 more people tested on Friday, making a total of 7,877 people who have been tested.

The local health department also held a walk-up event at Turning Points on Wednesday, testing 21 people.

According to the FDOH data, there were 72 residents currently positive of Thursday at the eight skilled nursing homes and three assisted living facilities with confirmed cases. Another 61 residents have been transferred to other facilities. There were also 62 staffers currently positive for the virus as well.

The latest data showed a significant drop off 22 cases of positive residents in the Manatee County facilities in one day. The data is reported by staff to the state.

In Sarasota County, there are now 496 total confirmed cases.

Hillsborough County now has 1,568 total cases while Pinellas County has 997 total cases.
