COVID-19 claims life of one more Manatee County long-term care resident. State confirms 48 new deaths
One more death in Manatee County is being blamed on COVID-19 as the Florida Department of Health confirmed 48 new deaths statewide on Wednesday.
The latest death is connected to one of the eight skilled nursing homes or three assisted living facilities with confirmed cases locally.
There are now 75 deaths in the county confirmed to be caused by COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Among those, 47 of the deaths occurred in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
As of Tuesday, there were 94 current cases of residents in these facilities, 60 current cases in residents who had been transferred out and 62 current cases in staffers.
Statewide, the death toll stands at 1,827 with other latest deaths reported in Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Miami-Dade, Duval, Gadsden, Hillsborough, Lee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Polk counties.
Manatee County also has 11 new cases of people testing positive for the virus, making 806 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were nearly 500 new cases that were reported statewide, with the total at 42,402.
The positive rate continues to drop in Manatee County, with 8.9% of the more than 9,000 residents who have now been tested found to be positive. That rate is now considered within the target range, according to FDOH, but remains higher than the state’s rate of 7.1%.
The hospitalization and mortality rate of COVID-19 in Manatee County remains higher than state’s rate.
In Sarasota County, there are now 440 total cases of people who’ve tested positive, 5.8% of all those tested. The death toll in Sarasota remains 57.
There are 1,494 total cases in Hillsborough County, with 4.4% of those tested positive for the coronavirus. The death toll in Hillsborough rose to 44. The death toll in Pinellas County remains higher with 63 deaths as a result of COVID-19. In Pinellas, there are now 923 people who have tested positive, 4.1% of those tested.
