COVID-19 case count in Manatee County nears 800, state health department says
An additional 12 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Manatee County, as the state total approaches 42,000 cases.
There are now 795 total cases in Manatee County, including 74 deaths.
Statewide, there were nearly 1,000 new cases announced on Tuesday morning. The statewide total is 41,923.
Another 44 people have died from COVID-19 in the state, taking the death toll to 1,779. The latest deaths in Charlotte, Collier, Dade, Desoto, Escambia, Hillsborough, Lee, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk, St. Lucie, Sumter and Volusia counties.
With more testing in Manatee County, the positive rate continues to decline. Of the 8,511 people who have been tested, 9.3% have tested postive, compared to the statewide rate of 7.2%.
Currently, there are 91 residents at eight skilled nursing homes and three assisted living facilities in Manatee County with confirmed cases of COVID-19. An additional 58 residents of these facilities have tested positive but have since been transferred to a local hospital or another facility.
There are also 59 employees who work at one of these facilties who have tested positive for the virus.
The deaths confirmed to be linked to these facilities remains 46, with the highest being 18 at Braden River Rehabilitation Center in Bradenton.
The Hospitalization rate remains higher in Manatee County, with 23% of local cases requiring hospitalization compared to 18% of cases statewide.
In Sarasota County, there are 435 total positive cases of coronavirus, 6.2% of those tested. Of those cases, 57 people have died.
There are 1,473 cases in Hillsborough County, with 4.3% of people tested positive for the virus. The death toll stands at 41. In Pinellas County, the death toll is much higher with 62 people dying from COVID-19. Pinellas County has 909 total cases, with 4.1% of those tested positive for the virus.
