Seven more test positive for coronavirus in Manatee County. State total approached 41,000

Seven more Manatee County residents have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus that causes COVID-19, according to the latest official data released by the Florida Department of Health on Monday morning.

There are now 783 total cases in Manatee County, as the state approaches nearly 41,000 total cases. The death toll in Manatee remains at 74.

The positive rate in Manatee County has continued to drop as testing has increased in the past couple weeks. With 9.5% of those tested in Manatee County positive for the deadly virus, that rate remains higher than the state’s rate of 7.3%.

During its first week open, the National Guard-run testing site set up near the Mall at University Town Center for Manatee and Sarasota counties tested 4,600 people.

Statewide, there were 14 new deaths reported on Monday in Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade, Hendry, Hillsborough, Lee, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pinellas and Volusia counties.. The death toll now stands at 1,735.

The fatality rate in Manatee County, 9%, is more than twice the statewide rate of 4%. Manatee County’s hospitalization rate, 23%, is higher than the state’s rate of 18%. As of Monday, there were 179 people who have had to be hospitalized.

Long-term care facilities continue to be ravaged by COVID-19 in Manatee County, with 46 of the county’s deaths confirmed to be a resident or staffer. Braden River Rehabilitation Center in Bradenton and sister-property Riviera Palms Rehabilitation Center in Palmetto account for at least 30 of those deaths.

Around the state, there are 714 deaths confirmed to be linked to long-term care centers.

Over the weekend, 11 of the 36 calls to 911 identified as being potentially linked to COVID-19 involved a skilled nursing home or assisted living facility in the county, according to an internal county report.

In Sarasota County, there are 430 people who have tested positive for the virus, 6.3% of those tested. The death toll in Sarasota stands at 57.

Hillsborough County now has 1,448 cases of people who have tested positive, 4.6% of those tested. There have been 38 people that have died in Hillsborough County. Pinellas County has 876 of positive cases, with 4.2% of those tested having the coronavirus. The death toll in Pinellas stands at 61.
