You can go back to your barber shop or beauty salon Monday. Here are the rules
Barber shops and beauty salons throughout most of Florida will be allowed to resume business on Monday by executive order from Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The order continues the first phase of a plan to “reopen” the state’s economy after many businesses were forced to close temporarily due to COVID-19.
Business owners that choose to reopen must follow social distancing guidelines and other precautionary measures, the order states.
A notice issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation lists those requirements, as well as additional practices that the businesses are encouraged to use.
Requirements:
▪ Professionals who hold one of the following state-issued licenses are allowed to resume business: Barber; Restricted Barber; Cosmetologist; Nail Specialist; Facial Specialist; Full Specialist; Hair Braider; Hair Wrapper; and Body Wrapper. “These license holders are permitted to perform the barbering or cosmetology services as authorized by their respective license or registration,” the state business department said.
▪ All business will be by appointment only. “Barbershops and salons are encouraged to adopt means of limiting patrons waiting for appointments, such as calling patrons from a waiting vehicle or outdoor waiting area once an available service station is cleaned, prepared, and ready for service of the next patron,” the state business department said.
▪ Businesses should allow at least 15 minutes between the conclusion of an appointment and the beginning of the next appointment for proper disinfecting practices.
▪ No group appointments are permitted. Barber shops and salons should restrict the number of individual appointments allowed to occur at once to the number of available service stations that can be responsibly accommodated while maintaining appropriate social distancing, according to the state business department.
▪ Masks must be worn by all employees while performing personal services.
▪ Customers are not required to wear masks under the executive order, but business owners may choose to make it a requirement for service.
▪ Barbers and salons in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, which have experienced severe outbreaks of COVID-19, are not yet permitted to reopen under the order.
Additional safety measures encouraged for business owners:
▪ Businesses should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected prior to reopening, the state business department said, including the disinfecting of all surfaces, tools and linens, even if they were cleaned before the business originally closed. The businesses should be similarly cleaned between each day of operation.
▪ Businesses should consider providing unworn masks to clients for use during their appointments.
▪ All unnecessary, frequently touched items like magazines, newspapers, service menus and any other unnecessary paper products and décor should be removed from customer service areas.
The new safety measures outlined in the executive order will be enforced during routine business inspections, according to the state business department.
