COVID-19 has claimed two more lives in Manatee County, as the state adds more than 1,000 new cases.

The death toll in Manatee County now stands at 57, according to Florida Department of Health’s latest release of data on Friday morning. Statewide, 46 more deaths have been announced, taking the death toll to 1,314.

Manatee County continues to have a higher mortality rate than state with 10% of confirmed cases ending in death, compared to 4% statewide.

In Manatee County, there are 11 new cases of people testing positive for the coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19. The state’s total cases are now at 34,728.

Manatee County’s case count, which is now at 587, is expected to surge as testing becomes more available. The county continues to have one of the highest rates of those tested who are positive for the virus at 15.1%. Only Suwannee, Gasden, Hendry and Jefferson have higher positive rates.

Meanwhile, there are now nine skilled nursing homes and two assisted living facilities with confirmed cases of COVID-19. There have been 32 deaths associated with these long-term care facilities — the highest outside of South Florida.

Combined they have 62 residents and 90 staff members who have tested positive. Some facilities don’t have any residents but only staffers who have tested positive. An additional 43 residents combined with COVID-19 have been transferred out of these facilities.

The department of health only just began releasing a detailed report with the breakdown of cases per facility statewide. But the data is not cumulative, and only accounts for current data as of the previous data.

According to IEM’s 7-daily daily projections, Mantaee County is expected to surpass 600 cases on Saturday while the state is expected to have more than 34,500 cases.

In Sarasota County, the death toll has risen to 44. There are a total of 348 people who have tested positive, or 7.6% of those tested in the county.

Hillsborough County has 1,114 cases of people testing positive for the virus, or 5.3% of those tested. The death toll in Hillsborough County stands at 24. In Pinellas County, there are 707 cases of people testing positive, or 5% of those tested. There are 38 people who have died from Pinellas County.
