Manatee County has two more COVID-19 deaths. Florida’s death toll passes 800

Another two people have died in Manatee County after testing positive for COVID-19, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Now at 33 deaths, Manatee County has the most reported COVID-19-related fatalities of any county in the Tampa Bay area, and the fourth most in the state.

A large portion of those deaths —at least 14—are tied to long-term care facilities.

The state health department also reported 16 new cases of the virus in Manatee County on Monday, for a total of 433.

Statewide, there were 398 new cases reported for a total of 27,058 people who have tested positive. It was the smallest amount of new cases reported since March 24.

The death toll in Florida now stands at 823, and 4,000 people have required hospitalization.

Manatee County

There are now 433 people in Manatee County who have tested positive for the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, since the outbreak started.

Of the 33 deaths in Manatee County, 14 were residents or staff members at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Of the 1,853 residents and staff at long-term care facilities statewide who have tested positive for the coronavirus, there are 127 in Manatee County facilities. There are seven skilled nursing homes and one assisted living facility where these 127 residents or staffers have tested positive.

In Manatee County, 84 people have been hospitalized.

Those who have tested positive in Manatee County are between the ages of 2 and 98, with the median age of 60. Forty-two percent of those who have tested positive in Manatee County are men, and 58 percent are women.

So far, 2,639 people have been tested in Manatee County, with 16.4 percent of them testing positive.

Sarasota County

In Sarasota County, there are 291 people who have tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Of those, 28 people have died from COVID-19, including five deaths confirmed on Monday. A total of 100 people have been hospitalized.

There have been 3,561 tests administered in Sarasota County, with a test positivity rate of 8.2 percent.

Tampa Bay area

Hillsborough County remains the hot spot in the Tampa Bay area with the highest total of cases: 973. There have been more than 15,000 tests administered there with a test positivity rate of 6.2 percent. There have been 19 deaths and 152 hospitalizations reported in Hillsborough.

In Pinellas County, there are 607 people who have tested positive, or 5.7 percent of the more than 10,000 people who been tested. There have been 16 deaths and 232 hospitalizations reported in Pinellas.
