Manatee’s deadliest day. Coronavirus kills nine more people in county, state says

Nine more people have died in Manatee County from COVID-19, according to the Florida Department of Health. Overall, there were 17 new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, reported Friday in Manatee County.

There are now 326 people who have now tested positive for the coronavirus locally and 24,753 people statewide, as of Friday evening’s report from the Florida Department of Health. The death toll in Manatee County is now 29.

Statewide there were 58 new deaths from COVID-19 in Brevard, Broward, Dade, Lee, Manatee, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Santa Rosa, Sarasota and St. Johns counties, raising the state death toll to 726. In Sarasota County, 22 people have died.

Cases in long-term care facilities continue to rise with 52 residents or staff of local facilities testing positive for the coronavirus. Eight of Manatee County’s COVID-19 deaths have been long-term care residents or staffers. Statewide there are 1,515 positive cases from long-term care facilities, including 141 residents or staffers who have died from the disease.

With 14 new cases overall, Sarasota County now has 274 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Hillsborough County now has 924 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus, while Pinellas County has had 565 people who have tested positive.
