Number of COVID-19 cases in Florida nears 20,000. Manatee adds 15 cases

Another 15 people in Manatee County were among 909 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed across the state on Sunday, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Florida has now had 19,895 confirmed cases of the disease, 19,337 of which were found in residents.

An additional nine people have died, according to the state health department, bringing the number of confirmed deaths in Florida to 461 since the coronavirus outbreak started.

Manatee County

Manatee County’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections since the outbreak started increased to 236 on Sunday, according to the state health department. The number of people with confirmed cases has risen by 100 over the past week as more testing is administered in the county.

The percentage of people who test positive for COVID-19 in Manatee County, 15.2 percent, remains higher than in surrounding counties. In Sarasota County, approximately 9.7 percent of those tested were infected, while the positive rates were 6.5 percent in Hillsborough and 5.3 percent in Pinellas.

At 236 cases, Manatee County has had more positive tests than Sarasota County despite testing 765 fewer people for the disease.

A total of 1,553 people have now been tested in Manatee County.

Only one case of a non-resident testing positive for COVID-19 has been reported in Manatee County; the rest of the cases were among residents.

The age range of those infected is 14 to 91, according to the latest demographics data from the state. Among people in the 14 to 24 age range, there have been 12 cases. Among adults in the 25 to 44 age range, there have been 52 cases. Among adults in the 45 to 64 age range, there have been 80 cases, and there have been 92 cases confirmed in people 65 and older.

Of those who tested positive, 45 percent were male and 53 percent were female.

The death toll remains at 13 in Manatee County, and 43 people have required hospitalization, according to the state health department.

Sarasota County

Sarasota County’s total confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose to 226 on Sunday. Of those cases, 211 were found in residents and 15 were found in non-residents.

The age range of those infected is less than one year old to 99 years old. Out of all cases, 110 were found in adults 65 and older.

Of those who tested positive in Sarasota County, 46 percent were male and 54 percent were female.

A total of 2,318 tests have been administered, with 9.7 percent of tests coming back positive.

The death toll remains at 12 in Sarasota County, and 75 people have required hospitalization.

Tampa Bay area

Hillsborough County has a total of 759 confirmed cases of COVID-19 to date, the most of any county in the Tampa Bay area. Testing has been administered to 11,678 people, with about 6.5 percent of tests coming back positive. 16 people with infections have died in Hillsborough County.

Pinellas County has had 455 cases confirmed. Testing has been administered to 8,642 people, with 5.3 percent testing positive. A total of 13 deaths have been reported in Pinellas County.
