Twenty new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manatee County. Florida total nears 19,000
Twenty more cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, were reported in Manatee County on Saturday, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Manatee County’s number of positive cases now total 221, with 220 residents being infected and one nonresident, as of Saturday evening.
No new deaths were reported, leaving the death toll at 13 and one new hospitalization was reported,bringing the total to 43.
There have been 1,500 tests completed in Manatee County, an increase from 1,175 from Friday evening.
There were 12 new cases in Sarasota County, bringing the total number of infections to 223. Sarasota County is reporting two more deaths since Friday evening, bringing the total to 12.
The Florida death toll has climbed to 458. The number of positive cases in the state now stands at 18,986.
Manatee County breakdown since Friday evening:
- Cases increased from 201 to 221.
- Age range: 14-89
- The Florida Department of Health has reverted to percentages of men and women infected with 45 percent being male and 53 percent being female.
- Deaths: Did not increase and remains at 13.
- Hospitalizations: Increased to 43.
- Tests: Number of residents tested increased from, 1,175 to 1,500.
Sarasota County breakdown since Friday evening:
- Cases increased from 211 to 223.
- Age range: 0-99
- The percentage of men infected is 45 percent compared to women at 54 percent.
- Deaths: Two new deaths brings the total to 12.
- Hospitalizations: Did not increase and remains 64 residents and eight nonresidents.
- Tests: Number of residents tested increased from 1,834 to 2,243.
Florida breakdown since Friday evening:
- Cases increased from 17,968 to 18,986. That total includes 533 nonresidents.
- The death toll climbed from 419 to 458.
- Hospitalizations increased from 2,496 to 2,607.
Hot spot counties with more than 1,000 cases:
- Broward County increased from 2,679 cases to 2,844. There have been four new deaths bringing the total to 76.
- Miami-Dade County increased from 6,300 cases to 6,758, with nine new deaths for a total of 93.
- Palm Beach County increased from 1,431 cases to 1,499, with one new death for a total of 80.
Counties with more than 500 cases:
- Orange County increased from 902 cases to 923, with one new death for a total of 13.
- Duval County increased from 618 cases to 638. Deaths increased by two for a total of 13.
- Hillsborough County increased from 676 cases to 698, with three new deaths for a total of 15.
- Lee County increased from 572 cases to 598. The death toll remains at 16.
Surrounding counties not already listed:
- Pinellas County increased from 431 cases to 446. The death toll remains at 12.
- Polk County increased from 241 cases to 244. The death toll remains at eight.
- Hardee County increased from three cases to 20 and is reporting three deaths, their first fatalities.
- Desoto County saw no new cases. There remains 20 cases with three deaths.
