2 more die from COVID-19 in Manatee County as number of confirmed cases rises to 200
Manatee County has 21 new cases of COVID-19, as hundreds more test positive in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Health. Two more Manatee residents have died from the virus.
As of Friday morning, there were 198 people in Manatee County — including one non-resident — who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19. Two more local cases were announced Friday evening. The state had a total of 17,968 cases.
The death toll in Florida has now reached 419, which includes 13 Manatee County residents. In Sarasota County, there were 211 people who tested positive for the coronavirus, including 10 people who died.
Hillsborough County had 676 positive cases and 12 deaths as of Friday evening. DeSoto County had 20 cases and three deaths; Polk County had 237 cases and eight deaths; while Hardee County had three cases and no deaths.
The virus has also spread to Liberty County, which had held out as the only county without any confirmed cases. The virus now exists in all 67 of Florida’s counties.
In Manatee County, the number of cases varied by area. Zip codes 34201, 34215, 34216 and 34250 had no cases, while others — 34202, 34203 and 34208 — had two dozen or more.
Manatee County breakdown since Thursday night:
- The number of COVID-19 cases climbed from 179 to 200, which includes one non-resident.
- The affected people ranged in age from 14 to 89, with the median age being 57.
- The local death toll rose from 11 to 13.
- The hospitalizations rose from 39 to 42.
- The number of tests increased by 100 (from 1,276 to 1,375), and 1,175 of those tests were negative.
