In Manatee County, two more die from COVID-19. Almost 300 have died in Florida

Another two people with COVID-19 have died in Manatee County, according to the latest data from the Florida Department of Health on Tuesday evening. The death toll from the disease in Manatee County now stands at seven.

The state health department also confirmed 33 new cases of COVID-19 in Manatee and Sarasota counties on Tuesday.

A total of 14,747 people in Florida have tested positive for the new coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19. There were 1,118 new cases between Monday evening and Tuesday evening.

In Manatee County, there were 19 new cases, making for a total of 164 residents who have tested positive for the coronavirus. In Sarasota County, there were 14 more people among the latest cases, bringing the county’s total to 173.

Statewide, a total of 42 more deaths due to the disease were confirmed on Tuesday. The death toll in Florida now stands at 296 people, including seven people in Manatee and seven people in Sarasota County.

Manatee County is among the counties with highest number of COVID-19 cases linked to long-term care facilities, with 23 residents testing positive. Only Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Duval and Suwannee counties have more cases among residents of nursing homes and similar facilities.

The state health department and Gov. Ron DeSantis have repeatedly refused to identify which skilled nursing homes or assisted living facilities have COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday, the Manatee Department of Health also declined to identify the local facilities after not responding to prior requests.

“In order to respect the privacy of individuals, and maintain the integrity of the epidemiological investigations, it is imperative that we keep certain details regarding personal identifying information confidential,” Manatee DOH communications director Christopher Tittel said.

Sarasota County has 12 residents living in skilled nursing homes or assisted living facilities who have tested positive.

Thirty-four Manatee County residents have been hospitalized so far because of COVID-19. Those testing positive for the virus are between the ages of 14 to 89.

The percentage of those testing positive for the coronavirus in Manatee County remain higher compared to testing statewide. Out of the 1,121 people tested in the county, about 15 percent have tested positive compared to the roughly 11 percent who have tested positive statewide.

Some neighborhoods in Manatee County are seeing more COVID-19 cases than others. Cases broken down by zip codes are as follows:

  • 34201: no cases
  • 34202: 21 cases
  • 34203: 25 cases
  • 34205: 5 to 9 cases
  • 34207: 5 to 9 cases
  • 34208: 31 cases
  • 34209: 10 cases
  • 34210: less than five cases
  • 34211: 5 to 9 cases
  • 34212: 12 cases
  • 34215: no cases
  • 34216: no cases
  • 34217: less than five cases
  • 34219: five to nine cases
  • 34221: 15 cases
  • 34222: less than five cases
  • 34228: five to nine cases
  • 34243: 11 cases
  • 34250: no cases
  • 34251: less than five cases

In Hillsborough County, 608 people have tested positive for coronavirus out of 9,378 tested. In Pinellas County, there were 387 people tested positive for the coronavirus out of 7,086 tested.
