15 new COVID-19 cases in Manatee County. More than 10,000 cases now confirmed in Florida
Fifteen Manatee County residents are among the 1,260 new cases of COVID-19 in Florida announced on Friday morning.
There are now 104 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Manatee County. To date, 744 people have been tested in the county, which a little more than a month ago saw the state’s first case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
Of those tested in Manatee County, 16 percent have tested positive for the virus. A majority of those testing positive, 62 people, are listed as Bradenton residents.
Florida now has 10,268 total cases. The death toll has risen to 170, with 26 more people dying from the disease. Three of those deaths have occurred in Manatee County.
Current COVID-19 projections from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation being used by the health department and emergency management officials, predict the peak in Florida won’t be until May 2.
Manatee County commissioners voted Friday afternoon to enact a countywide, nighttime curfew prohibiting large gatherings on public and private property. Officials, including Sheriff Rick Wells, say the curfew will help enforce social distancing and other restrictions handed down by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
In Sarasota County, 14 more people have tested positive for the virus, bringing the total of COVID-19 cases to 124. Sarasota County has tested 1,125 people. Seven of the state’s COVID-19 deaths have occurred in Sarasota.
In Hillsborough County, where 6,858 people have been tested so far and 463 of them are positive. Hillsborough now has five deaths.
In Pinellas County, where 5,198 people have been tested, there are 318 positive cases. The county has seen seven deaths related to COVID-19.
