Manatee County sees second COVID-19 death. Florida cases pass 6,700

A second person has died of COVID-19 in Manatee County, the Florida Department of Health confirmed on Tuesday evening.

The number of confirmed local cases of the novel coronavirus rose to 53, with the addition of 11 new cases.

Sarasota County’s confirmed cases climbed from 67 cases to 76, while statewide numbers increased to a total of 6,741 cases as the coronavirus pandemic intensifies. Florida’s death toll climbed from 71 cases on Monday to 85 on Tuesday evening.

A Sarasota Memorial Hospital patient who had the virus has died, the hospital reported on Tuesday afternoon. It is the third COVID-19 patient who has died at the hospital and the fourth death reported in Sarasota County. As of Tuesday evening, the state health department’s numbers only reflected three of the deaths.

There were 26 COVID-19 patients being cared for at Sarasota Memorial Hospital as of Tuesday afternoon; 21 patients have been discharged since the outbreak began.

Breakdown of Manatee County from Monday evening to Tuesday evening:

  • The total number of cases has increased from 42 to 53.
  • All of Manatee County’s cases are residents.
  • Age range of victims are 14-86.
  • Death toll increased to two.
  • Men infected: 29
  • Women infected: 24
  • Hospitalizations: Totals are now 17, which is an increase of three from Monday.

Breakdown of Sarasota County from Monday to Tuesday evening:

  • The total number of 67 to 76.
  • Number of residents infected rose from 58 to 67.
  • Non resident infections remain at nine.
  • Death toll increased to three.
  • Hospitalizations increased from 24 to 32.

Florida breakdown Monday to Tuesday evening:

  • Florida totals: Cases rose from 5,704 to 6,741.

  • Non-resident cases climbed from 215 to 251.
  • Residents infected went from 5,489 to 6490.
  • The death toll climbed from 71 on Monday to 85 on Tuesday.

Florida’s hot spot counties continue to rise. The number of counties with more than 100 confirmed cases also continue to rise. Those counties with more than 100 cases include:

  • Broward: Increased from 1,113 cases to 1,219.
  • Collier: Increased from 110 cases to 146.
  • Dade County: Increased from 1,675 cases to 2,123.
  • Duval County: Increased from 156 cases to 207.
  • Hillsborough County: Increased from 265 cases to 305.
  • Lee County: Increased from 163 cases to 206.
  • Orange County: Increased from 279 cases to 373.
  • Palm Beach County: Increased from 439 cases to 551.
  • Pinellas County: Increased from 112 cases to 167.
