Verizon customers unable to call 911 in Manatee and elsewhere in Florida

Verizon's network outage map is showing outages in much of the Tampa Bay area Thursday night, including Manatee County.

The outage is impacting calls, texts and wireless for Verizon cellphone users. It also means Verizon subscribers are not able to dial 9-1-1.

However, the 9-1-1 call center is still open and working, according to a tweet from Manatee County Public Safety: Emergency Management.

Based on comments on the Verizon website, the problem started in some areas Thursday afternoon and became more widespread through the evening. seemed to start around 7 p.m.
