Great American Cookies coming to Mall at University Town Center

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Mall at University Town Center shoppers looking for a quick snack will be able to buy a Great American Cookies.

The Atlanta-based chain filed a building application Wednesday, becoming one of the latest additions to the new mall, which is a little more than 30 days away from opening.

The cookie company started in 1977 using a family chocolate chip cookie recipe, eventually expanding to all-things cookies. The bakery typically hands out free cookies every year on tax day, April 15.

The parent company of Great American Cookies, Global Franchise Group, also owns Marble Slab Creamery and Pretzelmaker.

The company also has a shop inside the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall and International Plaza in Tampa.

The Mall at UTC will feature several fast food and dessert restaurants inside including ColdStone Creamery, Godiva, Mandarin Grill, Rise Pies, SweetDoctors, Smoothie King and Yo! Sushi.

The mall is expected to open Oct. 16 on the corner of Cattlemen Road and University Parkway.
